If you can "Picture" this...
Mid February IN MONTANA' An actual traffic jam on the river.
Who'da figured ?
The boy and I went to check ice the other week and this week we thought we would do a coyote calling/boat trip on the river.
We got at the ramp fairly early but not before sunup.
Thinking there was no rush, WHAT 4 other boats where already in the water and dispersed someplace on a 149 mile peace of water a 100 yards wide, the river.
Well OK but DANG. We push off there is BLM/State land inter mixed with a lot of private land along the river, we had to find Public as to not be trespassing by bullet.
Found a few spots but where foiled by boat traffic. Found some more and yup more boats of fisherman already there. A wonderful day for just being out , to bad we did not have our fishing stuff with us we found and marked some great looking spots to come back to and fish.
We did make a call that did produce a responder but it would not commit to come across a 5oo yard stretch of flat grass. The 6mm did a very valiant try but the little movement from the boat can take the MOA out of a rifle at 500 yards. The coyote almost went dead and never saw us and probably never herd the shot. A puff of dust in it's face and it trotted back in to the brake wondering what the heck???

Anyway some pics...

You may have seen this one, Boys Moose.
Down By Dillon Mt.

Three days of coyote calling in outrages mud, rain and snow.

The boy and his wife have doe antelope tags .
Got one so far there out today too.

I had a tooth abscessed so I got sidelined till I can get in to a dentist. The ER and immediate care don't treat tooth stuff ????
I lanced my own gum and they got me some antibiotic and pain meds , hoping I live till Monday.
Kinda touch and go.
When I get a pic of the other Antelope I'll stick it in

We call all year long and is the driving reason for the airboat project .
Well like most my dog trips it starts well before
sun up...
This trip I was heading south east of town to the King
ranch to hook up with a rancher and try and kill some
coyotes.
On the way up I was fallowing a smaller SUV and wishing
it was going about 5 mph faster, thinking I would slip
around it as soon as the road went to 4 lane.
Just as it did I started to stand on the SUB. I was
watching hard out the window the SUV shuttered a little
and something came spinning from out under the rear. Dang
a deer I missed the bulk of it but ran over what felt
like all 4 legs.
WOW !Did not see that coming. A mile or so he pulled over
. I pulled up along side to see what assistance he needed
.He was on the cell calling someone and flagged me on by,
cool I had a tee time with some Coyotes.
I get there still early. There was some fog right the
turn but no snow on the road,,, On the road. In the field
was a different story. This spring we called in two
coyotes just in back of his house on his shooting range,
that's where we started . Made a good effort but no
coyotes. We could hear some to the south of us.
To kinda let it cool off we thought we would try up Belt
Park. This is where we tried to get this spring but the
snow kept us out and the week before that it's where the rancher
and I Practiced digging a big truck out of a snow
drift...We got in this time and found a sweet place to
call. Just before we got in to it I noticed a truck
tucked in to the timber. Darned hunters already where out
. Not knowing where they may be we packed up and went
back.

This time we went to where my buddy thought the coyotes where
making the racked on the first set.
Started and had some WAY out in the distance call back.
I played more challenge calls and soon we had two under
200 yards trash talking back, unseen.
Back and forth for near an hour then BAM they where gone.

Next we went to a place we took a pot shot at a coyote this spring.
Called and called nothing...
Nice way to spend the morning.

An agriculture based town would have someplace you could walk in and by some rivets.
I try and try to shop local.
Bobs marina, white bear island Marina, and My Hewescraft dealer, Pacific steel, Steel etcetera, North 40 ( Big R ) Fleet supply, Western ranch supply, Fastenal, Bolt and anchor, Home depot, Pro Build , great falls lumber ,Johnsen Madison, Napa, O'Reilles, Ace. Not a solid aluminum rivet in the city. Fleet had a few steel rivets but nothing I thought would work on the boat. The 3/8 rivets I got are a titch to short they work but I think a 1/2 would work better. I had to order them too. $7 a box of 100 and $12 freight. Finely found some on amazon $13 for 100 and free freight 2 day delivery .
Every thing lately has been that way just cant get anything down the street. A person may as well live in a Unabomber cabin in the wood and just get every thing including grocery's over the computer.

It came out of a 67 Skee Horse wide track.
I got the snowmobile for the drive for my airboat so I know nothing about it's history. The owner did tell me it has been in "the pump house" for 20 years.
I started it before I took the motor and drive out It started right up with fresh gas and two pulls on the rope. It sounded fine.
Anyway it would make a smoking go kart or a gas winch, something like that.
$150 plus freight , let me know.

It just wrecked my breakfast when I read it.
Here is the letter.

" I normally let Misprints I find in the paper just go as a misprint .

BUT!

I just can't this time, sorry.
The recent fire at our shooting complex Is a very bad deal and I don't want to diminish that fact.
The way you reported it was very misleading in my opinion .
The report "A bullet ricocheted into a wheat field. A small
fire was ignited by the stray bullet".
The fact of a fire is not disputed. BUT a lead, or copper clad bullet can't start a fire...That's just Bogus!
An allusion straight from Hollywood.
To make a spark there has to be a ferrous metal involved. Like a steel bullet , or iron backer board support ,even at that the spark only occurs at the point of impact.

NOT out in a wheat field.
On occasion a lead/copper bullet will cause a spark if it hits a very heavy steel backer board but there again AT THE POINT OF IMPACT.
How the fire started ? Possibly a broken bottle?
But it could not have been from a ricocheting bullet."

Am I wrong?
